Down the beach
The North Cornish Coast has exceptional beaches from tiny craggy coves to windswept miles of golden sand. Gannel View is just a short walk from both Crantock Beach and the world famous Fistral Beach. Here is a run down of our favourites.
Fistral Beach – Just 5 minutes walk from the house and you can be on this famous surfing beach. Really popular in the summer it is the best place to watch some of the countries best surfers ride the waves. There are seasonal life guards, shops, bars, cafes and toilets at both ends of the beach.
Crantock Beach – A large expanse of golden sand surrounded by dunes. There are rock pools and caves to explore too. The beach is lifeguarded between May and September. There is also a car park and toilets.
Holywell Bay – A large beach with sand dunes with a shallow stream running down to the beach which is perfect for paddling. At high tide there is ample room amongst the dunes for sunbathing. There is an easy level walk from the car park with refreshments and toilets.
Watergate Bay – Home of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant and a great place to have surfing lessons. This large beach of golden sand has seasonal life guards, cafes and shops.
Tolcarne – Just outside the centre of Newquay this is a more sheltered beach for swimming when the waves are big. They have a couple of really good restaurants, shops and toilets. The beach is accessed by steep steps from the main road.
Mawgan Porth – This is a perfect sheltered sandy beach backed by huge cliffs. Ideal for families.
